What does it mean when it says “new moon expected?” The celebration of the New Moon is observational – which means, it must be sighted/observed in the sky before the celebration can begin. The date of the expectation is based on various secular astronomical calculations, which are usually accurate, however, regardless of the date (within a 30 day period), the new moon must be observed by the human eye.
